Heart of the Matriarch

A Gift of Connection

In the matrilineal cultures of the Northwest Coast, lineage is a sacred gift carried through our mother. The Heart of the Matriarch Collection is a tribute to this enduring continuity—honoring the aunties, mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers who serve as the foundation of our families.

Hand-woven in Lingít Aaní (Juneau, Alaska), each piece in this collection utilizes traditional Ravenstail (Yéil Koowú) designs with Chilkat (Naaxiin) techniques in a contemporary fashion for everyday wear. Featuring interwoven ancestral geometric patterns—symbols of protection, nature, and home—with contemporary heart designs to represent the unwavering pulse of those who nurture us.

The palette of cream, soft pink, sage green, and brown reflects the restorative power of nature. These are the colors of healing and endurance, designed for the women who ground us, nurture us, and ensure our stories never disappear.

This Mother's Day release celebrates the diverse spirits that hold a lineage together:

  • The Guardian: For the fierce protector of the family path.
  • Spirit of the Hearth & The Echo: For the warmth and resonance of the home.
  • The Visionary & The Keeper: For the clarity of the future and the shelter of our past.
  • Heart of the Ancestor: For those who carry their heritage with pride and grace.

Woven in the Heart of the Tongass Forest

GarnetAnn is a weaver based in Lingít Aaní, where the mountains meet the sea and the traditions of her ancestors continue to thrive. Her journey into Northwest Coast wool weaving—an ancient practice once nearly lost—is a tribute to the matriarchs who kept stories alive through wool and song.

For GarnetAnn, weaving is a form of cultural connection and a way to honor the aunties and caregivers who are the backbone of our community. "When I sit at my loom, I am continuing a matrilineal conversation that has spanned generations."

Every woven row in the Heart of the Matriarch Collection is a reflection of the strength, resilience, and nurturing power of the women around us.

Gunalchéesh (Thank you) for supporting Indigenous art and for honoring the heart of your own lineage.

Woven Heritage. Matrilineal Strength. A Pulse of Tradition.

New Woven Collection

Honoring the lineage of the Coast

A new connection between modern fandom and traditional artistry. A tribute to the Spirit of the Pacific Northwest, handwoven in Seahawk hues.

Ancestral "Hawk"

Long before the first kickoff in Seattle, the spirit of the 'hawk' was already soaring. These Ravenstail weavings honor the true origins of our home team’s logo ~ a Kwakwaka’wakw transformation mask carved in the late 1800s.

Vision and Practice

Working with merino wool, GarnetAnn creates wearable art that is intended to be "danced to life" everyday. Her work often explores the intersection of sacred tradition and contemporary identity, such GarnetAnn's recent series inspired by the Indigenous roots of the Seattle Seahawks logo. For GarnetAnn, weaving is not just an artistic pursuit; it is a form of spiritual protection and a vital link with her Northwest culture.

Ancient weave. Modern Spirit. Go Hawks.

"I explore the intersection of traditional regalia and modern identity. By integrating contemporary palettes, I am weaving resilience, one row at a time."
